The BMW 318i provided by BMW was equipped with the standard SpeechDat-Car mobile recording platform (PLTM) by Bosch.
This platform is installed in the boot of the car. It consists of a car PC (by IPO, France) and four microphone amplifiers (by L&H, Belgium) and an additional 12V car battery connected to the main electric circuit.
The PC is operated via an infrared keyboard with integrated mouse, and the output is displayed on a high-quality colour LCD screen mounted on the dashboard within the driver's field of view.
